it depend on how you get the information. If meet bob the code of big gold corp at the bar by chance and he start blabbing to me about insider information. I can buy it and not be guilty of anything. It would be him that committed the crime. If knew bob was a drunk and I paid someone to tell me where he drinks for the only reason to ply him with booze to get info. We are getting grayer area. If I offer him something in exchange for this info then I have crossed the line. But in all cases bob guilty.
so if you are worried about yourself, if you have not been read the riot act about by someone who has the authority to read the rules (and please don't tell anyone does not qualify) and you did not pay or steal or acquire info in some nefarious way I don't believe you should worry a lot . It is on them.
