NO.  Most definitely not.

Brookfield is starting a fund. The equity of the fund is $12 billion ($8.5 billion raised from partners).  Brookfield will take $3.5 billion from cash on hand to own that share of the partnership.

One asset goes up by $3.5 billion (share of partnership)

One asset goes down by $3.5 billion (cash on hand)

Net effect on shareholders equity: ZERO

Period.
