VLT.v Commissions Permanent Demonstration Plant for DLE Tech The global lithium sector, at the forefront of innovation in clean energy solutions, is poised for an extraordinary journey ahead. As the world increasingly embraces the transition towards electric vehicles (EVs) and sustainable energy, lithium has become an indispensable component in fulfilling these aspirations. Within this dynamic landscape, Volt Lithium Corp. (TSXV: VLT or VLTLF for US) emerges as a beacon of promise, committed to being North America's premier producer of lithium hydroxide and lithium carbonates from oilfield brines.
VLT's DLE Tech and Pilot Lithium Production
VLT's proprietary 2-step Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) technology and process sets it apart, enabling the company to achieve high lithium recoveries at low costs.
VLT successfully conducted pilot production plant operations for its flagship Rainbow Lake Lithium Project in Northwest Alberta. These operations took place during the spring of 2023 at their Regina, Saskatchewan facilities, marking a key step towards realizing their commercial extraction goals
News: VLT Commissions Permanent Demonstration Plant
Building on the success of the pilot plant, VLT has taken a significant leap by commissioning a permanent Demonstration Plant. This facility is capable of testing oilfield brines from multiple basins across North America in real-time.
The permanent Demonstration Plant, situated in Calgary, Alberta, simulates field conditions for extracting lithium from oilfield brines and converting it into lithium hydroxide and lithium carbonates.
What makes this development truly transformative is that it incorporates technological advancements gained from the pilot phase and VLT's collaborations with the Zeng Lab and the Advanced Water Treatment Lab at the University of Alberta. This combination of expertise and innovation enables VLT to extract lithium from oilfield brines irrespective of their initial lithium concentrations.
Looking Ahead
Leveraging the insights and expertise garnered through VLT's successful pilot program, coupled with the nanotechnology and water processing proficiency stemming from its collaborations, the company has effectively eliminated impurities from the oilfield brine utilized in its DLE technology.
This achievement is a crucial precursor to Volt's ongoing efforts in preparing a Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) for Rainbow Lake.
With the reservoir analysis now complete, the company is finalizing the capital and operating costs required for the establishment of a 20,000 tonnes per annum lithium plant at Rainbow Lake. The knowledge, experience, and outcomes gained from the permanent Demonstration Plant will significantly contribute to the PEA and support Volt's commitment to publishing it before the end of November 2023.
