The average GIC over the same period was far less than the 4.88% annualized return of ENB (on average less than half). ENB currently pays a 7.7% dividend. The best GIC is not even close. Also consider that dividends in Canada are treated very favorably form a tax perspective, not true of interest as in the case of GIC. Therefore the net return to a taxpayer is far greater holding ENB than any GIC. Comparing past returns to current GICs is very poor research indeed.
