Two Motors in One

Two Motors in OneAs you know on the rear of Tesla vehicles there's Dual Motor stamped.  I think it could work hand-in-hand with Exro's Coil Driver technology.  Has there been anymore discussion about this topic?

This is from July 22 2020:


..." the Tesla Model 3 employs a dual-motor all wheel-drive one motor for low-end torque and another for speed. Seems to me they could shave a few kilograms off of the car’s weight, not to mention a few thousand dollars off of the price, by switching to a single motor with an electronic gearbox."
