Productivity and Reliability, May Business Update

Finally had a chance to read over the latest Business Update. When I got to page 23 of the update, I almost fell out of my chair when they make mention to implementing Six Sigma to save $10 million, year over year. Sorry folks, but Chemtrade's take on using Black and Green Belts to lead projects is only a half measure that will lead to failure. Six Sigma initiatives work best when the whole organization is involved.

I firmly believed that I had been proven correct in the above observation as no updates concerning results were ever again mentioned. But what is now eye opening from those stated initiatives from 2021 is that Chemtrade is now looking to fill the position of Senior Operational Excellence Lead.  The following is one of the required competencies of the position

Operational Excellence Training and Coaching

• Develop and deliver training modules for Green Belt Certification and support Green Belt Candidates through to certification level

• Develop and deliver training modules for Leadership Team, Plant Management, Maintenance and Operations Management, Process Engineers, etc. such as Intro to Lean, A3 Problem Solving, Kaizen, 6S WorkPlace Organization, Root Cause Analysis, etc.

• Provide guidance and mentorship to Green Belts and Green Belt Candidates to successfully complete improvement projects

• Coach departments at all levels (from operator level to senior leadership level) on proper use of the tools.

I clearly pointed out almost 3 years ago that the whole organization needs to be fully involved in Six Sigma in order for it to work properly. The above partial job description has yet again proven me to be correct concerning my take on Chemtrade.
