Yukon Don Trumps grandfather left Seattle to go the Yukon to make his fortune in the goldfields in 1898. He ran a successful restaurant at Bennet, on Lake Bennet at a stopover for sourdoughs on the way to the Yukon River to build boats and continue on to Dawson City. He moved his operation to Whitehorse a couple years later and ran a restuarant, brothel, bar and never made it all the way to strike it rich in the goldfields. He struck it rich in Whitehorse beyond his wildest dreams and a couple years later pulled up stakes and moved to New York City. Thus the beginnings of the Trump empire. The Donald has Canadian roots and I have personally seen the exact spot in Whitehorse where his New Arctic Hotel and Restaurant once stood.
