The way I see it there is no one solution that fits all. 

First fact to look at is who owns the company?  How substantial is the influence of the controlling shareholder(s)? Are the controlling shareholders looking for income? or long term appreciation?

No easy answer.  For example, I am happy with GXE paying a high yield dividend and also satisfield with TNT.UN not paying a monthly distribution at this time but using the money for buyback at prices well below "book value".

Different strokes for different folks.
