Where I was it was in Spain it was basically 36 latitude which is much farther south than Canada and when I visit my friend in Northern Spain it is the same latiitude as Kingsville Ontario which is the southernmost city in Canada.  Denmark is alot warmer in the winter than most places in Canada (average temperature in February is around 0C.  Paris is even warmer in the winter.  Oslo Norway is much warmer in the winter than most places in Canada and certainly western Canada...same is true for Tronheim Norway, a city which is quite a bit north of Oslo.


Thinking you forgot about the effect of the Gulf Stream...
