StrikeThis strike is happening during summer holidays. It's vacation time at bombardier, and it's supplier as well. This strike will have minimum impact as it is happening during planned low production cycle.
Union members are not getting paid by bombardier while striking. The amount of money members are not earning while on strike will need to be made up by overtime and better deal.
The way I see it, bombardier wins. Union will eventually get better deal but that will not make up for the salary lost while on strike. Productivity/efficency is low during summer and when workers come back then their will be more constant workflow and better Productivity.
I think members rejected tentative deal to see what westjet maintenance guys got. That deal sets new baseline. Keep in mind opposite of Bombardier Pearson factory is Pratt Canada Factory, and Air Canada has large aircraft maintenance facility at Pearson as well. All these companies rely on same skill sets. Bombardier employees wants the best for themselves. And I don't blame them. Bombardier mess was created by management not Union members. And I rather see bombardier pay them more before Pratt or AC pouches them.
Also only globals are impacted and we don't know how many global were to be build. If it was low then it's in bombardiers favour.
