https://magazine.cim.org/en/news/2024/a-watershed-moment-for-indigenous-financial-independence-en/ Offering a means for First Nations and Indigenous groups to monetize royalties obtained from resource projects, NRC aims to drive economic independence for Indigenous communities by managing significant assets and reducing their reliance on government transfer payments.
NRC's initial assets include five royalties under four agreements entered into by the Nisga'a Nation, a major shareholder of the entity.
All assets are located in BC's Golden Triangle and collectively have a net value of ~US$214M, with highlights including:
- Brucejack Mine: Underground copper-silver mine & currently producing asset operated by Pretium Resource
- Premier Gold Project: Commercial production slated to begin in third quarter with first gold pour having occurred in April, operated by Ascot Resources
- Red Mountain Gold: Near Premier Mine & operated by Ascot Resources
- KSM: In development by SeaBridge Gold, exposes NRC to copper, gold silver and molybdenum
- Kitsault: Fully permitted brownfield site focused on molybdenum being advanced by New Moly
The current revenue projections of NRC's assets call for revenue of US$4.0M in 2024 and US$52M by 2023 based on current assets and projected production timelines.
In merging royalties and incomes from various resource projects to attract external investors, promoting economic growth and reconciliation NRC is aiming to capitalize on economic growth, diversification and the empowerment of Indigenous communities in the public and capital markets.
