Bernard is not a nobody. But he can conquer the entire fumed silica market (or half of it) and most if not all people on your street will have no clue who he is.
This kind of name-dropping may be flattering to him but there is probably some portion of the audience that sees it as detracting from seriousness.
It won't be long to see how this unwinds. A matter of a few months if it goes as they expect it to go.
