The Future of Lithium - Big Oil & DLE The Future of Lithium - 'Why Big Oil is Investing In Lithium', Direct Lithium Extraction's Role and EMP Metals (EMPS.c EMPPF) Setting New Industry Standard Benchmark.
As part of their energy transition strategy, ExxonMobil, along with other oil giants like Occidental, Equinor, Saudi Aramco, and ADNOC, are increasingly focusing on lithium, leveraging their expertise in drilling and reservoir management to tap into lithium-rich brine, with hopes that new technologies, such as direct lithium extraction, could significantly boost efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
This shift marks a strategic pivot for the oil industry, which is betting on lithium's growing demand as the world transitions to electric vehicles. Unlike traditional mining companies, big oil has the financial capacity to make large, capital-intensive investments in lithium, with potential to reshape the market similarly to how fracking revolutionized oil production.

Direct Lithium Extraction
Direct lithium extraction (DLE) is an innovative technology designed to efficiently extract lithium from brine without the need for large evaporation ponds. Using advanced methods, DLE separates lithium ions directly from the brine, reducing the time, land, and water required in traditional methods.
DLE has the potential to unlock vast lithium resources from underground brine, making it a key technology in meeting the growing demand for lithium, especially for electric vehicle batteries.
EMP Metals
Boasting industry leading results and a successful pilot project with Koch, EMP Metals (EMPS.c EMPPF) has made significant strides in lithium brine extraction as of late.
With the completion of its first vertical test well (8-24) and the commencement of drilling its second well, a horizontal well (4-23), EMP stands out as a unique lithium & DLE company targeting the Duperow formation in Saskatchewan.
This development is particularly notable as it could represent the first horizontal well for lithium brine extraction in Saskatchewan and possibly North America.
Furthermore, EMPS has already set a new industry standard benchmark for lithium concentration with lithium recovery rates of over 97% and impurity rejection rates exceeding 99% during its successful pilot program with Koch Technology Solutions.
