This morning I contacted my broker (CIBC) asking for confirmation that BPO preferred shares were in fact trading ex-dividend today since their quotes did not reflect the reduction of the dividend.

As the market closed this afternoon I received their reply:

"Hello Pierre,

Thank you for your email. We hope you are doing well.
 
For security reasons, we are unfortunately unable to provide any confidential account information by email. This question would need to be answered by one of our licensed traders, who are available over the phone. Please kindly call our Contact Centre at 1-800-567-3343 (Monday to Friday, 8 am to 8 pm ET). One of our Contact Centre phone agents will be happy to assist you. "

What is wrontg with the world?  I wanted a written reply, not something on the phone that can be denied at some time in the future.
