Report From France FYI....up to you what you do with this information
Am currently in France and just completed a cycling trip in the remote Cevennes and Ardeche region. Right now I am staying a house I rented in Provence (wife joining me in Marseille) just outside a tiny village near Mont Ventoux.
interestingly, while on the cycling trip, one of the hotels had four charging stations and a number of the villages I passed through had one or two charging stations. In Marseille I rented a BMW X3 plug-in hybrid from Avis. They had a large fleet of hybrids and plug-in hybrids - mainly Volvos and BMWs.
in terms of charging stations in France there is no shortage. As an example there are two stations in a tiny village 7k from our house. The supermarket in the large town (19k away) had 4 stations and they are a large chain and 190 of their supermarkets have charging stations. Today we are going to the local market in a larger town about 20k from our house and there are 20 stations there run by various companies.
in talking to the locals, they tell me that while France has lots of charging stations everywhere, they are lagging Holland and Germany, not to mention Norway. So basically in Europe for the hundreds of millions of people who live there and taking geography into account there is virtually no need for range anxiety.
in the X3 I have rented, I have driven 300k and still have 500k in range left. In terms of cost, the electricity here is expensive IMO - but so is the cost of gasoline. My math suggests that using electricity compared to gas is about one-third the cost for the fuel. I haven't done the math for a total cost comparison but for example BMW guarantees the engine for 8 years or 165k km.
So for me as an investor, these are things I want to know about and factor into my decisions about what to invest in....up to you as to what you do.
