You know they cook the books to make things appear better than they actually are. For instance, the trajectory of inflation is certainly headed back down but you and I both know it's a lot higher than what's being reported. As for gdp, with higher unemployment rate and really poor productivity numbers, gdp shouldn't be anything to brag about. If they say it's 1% then it's probably -1%. Not only is the cpi numbers highly flawed but the gdp deflator that is used in the calculation of gdp is outright wrong. 

Garbage in and garbage out. Typical government statisticians.
