Acapulco has been selected to host the XXXVI International Mining Convention, a key event for Latin America’s mining industry, scheduled for Nov. 18–21, 2025. The convention is expected to attract over 14,000 participants to Acapulco, providing a significant boost to the local economy as the city rebuilds itself from recent natural disasters.
In 2023, the convention was scheduled for Oct. 23–27, but on the event’s opening day, Tropical Storm Otis swiftly intensified into a Category 5 hurricane. The event was canceled to protect attendees. Hurricane Otis devastated Acapulco, leaving 50 people dead and 30 missing. More recently, the city suffered further damage from Hurricane John, which caused losses of MX$22 billion, along with 52 fatalities and 31 missing people.
Rubn del Pozo, President, AIMMGM, emphasized the importance of Acapulco as a recurring venue and highlighted the mining sector’s solidarity with the people of Guerrero. “Selecting Acapulco reflects the industry’s commitment to social responsibility. We not only create wealth but also actively contribute to the well-being of communities,” Del Pozo stated.
Guerrero Governor Evelyn Salgado expressed gratitude to the mining sector for placing its trust in Acapulco once again. "Acapulco is committed to the mining industry, and we look forward to warmly welcoming the thousands of visitors who will strengthen our ties with this vital sector for the country’s economic development," Salgado remarked.
Ricardo Moreno, General Coordinator, XXXVI International Mining Convention, stressed that the event goes beyond professional networking, serving as a symbol of resilience and progress for Acapulco. "Mining is more than an economic activity; it is a tool for social transformation, helping to rebuild Acapulco’s future," he said.
Moreno emphasized that with upgraded infrastructure and reinforced security measures, Acapulco is ready to host the mining industry’s leading players at this international gathering. The city has invested in modernizing its convention facilities, enhancing safety procedures, and restoring essential services to ensure a seamless experience for all participants.
