Fed funds and the 10 year The last time 10 year yields rose higher after Fed funds decreased was in 1981 or just before the 1981 recession. Fed funds peaked at around June 1981 at around 19.1% while the 10 year troughed on June 15 at 13.09% and peaked 3 and a half months later on September 30th at 15.84%. When the recession was over the 10 year went below 11%. This also occurred in July 1974 when the 10 year peaked less than 2 months later.
