US runs through 20M bbl/day of Oil (appr 16M for their domestic use & 4M for their export business).
They produce 13.5M bbl/day of Oil.
They import 6.5M bbl/day
Appr 4M bbl/day comes from Cda, the rest from Opec+
As Jimmy has mentioned here on this board, the refineries in the US south are tooled for the heavy oil that comes from oil sands. Mexico & Venez have heavy as well but not as much and not reliable supply.
If US does not need Cdn oil as you think, they certainly need to get it somewhere else or they can forget about their daily export business that makes them a fortune.
I know Trump has said, we are going to "drill baby drill".
Even so, how long and how much investment will it take to increase supply by just another 1M bbl/day.
