By 2007, several new projects in the UK North Sea are expected to be in production, boosting the country's output levels and keeping oil exports flowing.
The largest is Nexen's $1bn multi-platform Buzzard project, which is due on-stream in the fourth quarter of 2006 and should be pumping at a plateau of 180,000 barrels per day by mid-2007. It could continue at this level into 2010.
Oil major BP has large projects in development including its $1.15bn Clair platform in the West of Shetland region, expected on-stream in the next week and due to reach a peak of 60,000 bpd by the end of this year.
BP is also developing the Rhum gas-condensate field as a subsea tie-back to its Bruce platform in a $630m project.
The central North Sea has a number of projects underway, including BP's $135m Fargagon, due on-line this year as a satellite to the Andrew platform.
ConocoPhillips has the Britannia Satellites project, involving subsea wells tied back to a new bridge-linked platform. First production is set for the fourth quarter of 2006, with Callanish output expected to hit 35,000 bpd and Brodgar expected to produce 200m cu ft per day of gas. Talisman has its $600m Tweedsmuir project with a 55 km pipeline to the Piper platform and production of 45,000 bpd at peak. It is due on-stream in late 2006.
North Sea newcomer Oilexco has its Brenda development in the planning phase likely to be subsea wells tied back to the Balmoral production semi- submersible and due on-line by 2006 with an output level of 35,000 bpd. London-listed BG Group is developing the $380m Atlantic-Cromarty gas-condensate project as a subsea tie-back to a terminal at St Fergus, due on-stream in the fourth quarter of this year.
