Ascend Elements' New Battery Recycling Plant

This company has a different recycling process called "Hydro-to-Cathode", which eliminates some steps involved in hydrometallurgical recycling. See the figure in the second link from the company's website.

Been watching Ascent for a couple of years (when they worked at WPI lab), I have been having a difficult time finding  independent verification of the claimed processes. Have you had better luck?

Hello Wojo1963 - there is a reference and link to a "peer-reviewed study" in an Apr 27, 2022 news release on Ascend's website, but the linked research paper doesn't mention Ascend directly. Still, Honda signed an agreement with Ascend to recycle their spent batteries, so one would assume the process has been sufficiently validated, even though the results may not be ...more

Yes I agree with you, I reviewed the reference article in Joule.  This article appears to be a major science project with about 20 partcipants providing thier input.  I would not call ths an indepentent verification of thier processes.  It could be like you said that Honda hired someone to perform a verification and did not want to make it public, but I can not see why they would ...more
