Bullboard - Stock Discussion Forum Aphria Inc. APHA

Aphria, which is headquartered in Ontario, produces and sells medicinal and recreational cannabis. The company operates through retail and wholesale channels in Canada and internationally. Aphria is a main distributor of medical cannabis to Germany and has operations in over 10 countries outside of Canada. However, it does not have exposure to the U.S. CBD or THC markets due to the constraints... see more

Calling on Sane aphria investors

Aphria reeling from a short agreed to ridiculous compensation and hired a Vic Neufeld Appointee Irwin Simon. He is one of the most over paid CEOs in the category. Companies with larger backing of US companies and way more cash flow do not pay their CEO what Irwin Simon receives. In the same time frame Aphria lost 54 percent of its market cap and reported over all losses in operations, Mr Irwin Simon doubled his pay.

It's time to to terminate his tenure and promote Carl CFO as Intern CEO until a new CEO can be found through mergers, partnerships or opportunity. Please folks don't make me come back a year from now and say I told you so. Irwin Simons pay and his leadership will never bring any partner to the table with a successful conclusion in negotiations. Read what happened with aphria/ACB merger negotiations. Executive compensation was main reason the consolidation efforts fell apart. The rumors are not rumors they are true. Irwin Simon was hired in haste as aphria was attacked by short sellers. He made himself king and is robbing your investments and diluting. Here we are in the eve of elections and all promises fell through not one he ever made came to pass. We have no deals, no USA in roads, no partners and we burned through cash. Aphria is a great company we just need a CEO to match. It's ripe for a buy in or buy out but Irwin Simon is our biggest obstacle

In light of everything that has transpired in this sector, I give Irwin Simon a C- for his overall performance.  Given all the other CEOs earned an F (I would award a G if such a grade existed); Irwin is at least passing.  What could get him to B+ is a decent communications strategy.  This begins with showing up to interviews looking like a high end CEO, not someone out for a jog ...more

Aphria is a great company. To sum up my existence on this board in one statement. Our stock is in the gutter because people dislike Irwin Simons leadership. Bottom line: he failed to deliver being at the helm of such a great company. He delivered on his compensation though, he gets an A plus there.

CalmDown:  I am not even remotely defending Irwin Simon.  The last 3Qs have been a frustrating pump and dump of miserably repeatable proportion.  However, compared to ACB (a dump and dump) and WEED (sitting at less than a third of where it was and unable to figure out how to put a beverage in a can) we are sort of holding our own.  But holding our own is not what any ...more

Sky, good post, but I disagree in regards to the Carl Merton comments. How does the CFO get a pass with all that has transpired at Aphria over the past 4 years? I fully realize the potential turbulance if the CFO is questioned let alone fired, but in my opinion he is not squeeky clean. As to Irwin, for 18 mil, we can do far better. Perhaps poaching TRUL staff would be a start. I hear that they ...more

Whether folks here choose to believe this or not, I spent some time this evening having a back and forth e-mail exchange with Mr. Simon. I am not his friend, and I am not name dropping to impress anyone here. What I have been doing is being forthright (but respectful) about many of the concerns we have shared on this board, inclusive of a poor communication strategy to frustration about these ...more

Sky, I seldom respond to posts on this board other than with the occasional "thumbs up" but I will say your post attacks the heart of the matter in a very subtle way. A refreshing read indeed!  I personally have entered my 5th year as an investor in Aphria, and for all us us 'long termers' I can say "we grow weary". Remember highs of $24 and $22? Yes, it seems like ...more

Hey Abel, If Irwin swung better deals with actII than Aphria would you be pissed off?
Comment by CaneIsAbel on Oct 29, 2020 8:14pm
I'm not pissed off. Our CEO is over paid and can't (won't) make any deals or compromise. His salary doubled and our market price more then halved in the same one frame. We lost Emblem, we paid penalties and hasn't cut any deals or created any value. On the contrary he's done the exact opposite. It is what it is this is reality. He has to go why can't you see that?   ...more

Interesting looking at the compensation on the TRUL execs compared to APHA [12:25 PM] My firm, Cannabis Compensation ConsultantsTM monitors a large number of cannabis companies, not just in the Spring but all year long. This is because in addition to being compensation consultants, our firm has extensive investment holdings in ...more

Quietobserver, been awhile since you last posted. Thanks for the analysis and for pointing out how IS is screwing the shareholders

As I said in the past when Ilvymy mocked and said to me "hey Cain heard petition closed with 18 supporters". That wasn't a serious effort nor something I started.  Entropy is everything decays and order reverts back to random chaos. We humans call that time and we experience it in a way our brains can make sense of it. Unfortunately people need to experience enough of this chaos ...more
