Inner Mongolia Becomes Largest Power Exporter in China BEIJING --February 6, 2008--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Electricity exports from northern China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region reached 68.59 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) in 2007, making the region China's largest power exporter, according to information disclosed at the Working Conference 2008 of the Inner Mongolia Electric Power (Group) Company Limited (Hohhot, Inner Mongolia) in mid-January. The accumulated electricity exported from Inner Mongolia was a year-over-year increase of 23.77% of which the electricity exported to north China's power grid reached 52.69 billion kWh, an increase of 30.30% year over year. The electricity exported to northeast China's power grid reached 15.51 billion kWh, an increase of 5.4% year over year. The accumulated power output from Inner Mongolia reached 182.63 billion kWh, an increase of 29.22% year over year of which hydropower output reached 1.433 billion kWh, an increase of 12.04% year over year. Thermal power output reached 179.87 billion kWh, an increase of 28.82% year over year, and wind power output reached 1.33 billion kWh, an increase of 250.13% year over year. The Inner Mongolia region is rich in energy resources. Based on recent data, up until to the end of 2007, the region's total proven coal reserves reached 676.34 billion metric tons, and total coal reserves surpassed 700 billion metric tons, ranking No. 1 in China. Inner Mongolia has a 20-year history of being a power exporter. Up until the end of 2007, Inner Mongolia's total installed capacity reached 42,080 megawatts (MW), an increase of 38.9% year over year. The installed capacity of hydropower, thermal power and wind power reached 830 MW, 39,820 MW and 1,430 MW, respectively. In 2008, the region's total installed capacity is expected to increase 6,000 MW.
