I believe this a little pre-mature, no way can they know at this point. Can they?

Oh! Ok Wally hadn't seen it. Would you agree that can't possibly know?

This is causing confusion on EOG's Board also, I believe someone is jumping the gun on South America and some are confusing it with Africa.

Yes it is too early to reach TD  at Wingat but if you look at the 2012 3rd quarter presentaion and on slide 16 it shows the Wingat Prospect. Along the projected well location, you can see that it passes thru a Prospect named Nocoma. Could oil shows be seen in the  cuttings as it passes through Nocoma? https://ir.hrt.com.br/hrt/web/download_arquivos.asp?id_arquivo=2FAE3942-E04B-4886-88DA ...more

Yes, they could possibly see oil shows in the mud returns and some  flourescence from the collected cuttings samples indicating oil. It would not mean it is commercial. They have just now completed setting the 20 in. casing and were preparing to drill out the casing shoe this weekend so they are nowhere near near reaching any targeted horizons yet. OJ

Nocoma is something around 3200m with Wingat at 3800m, so they are still a long way off.

Actually Nocoma is about 2000 meters deep

I'm too lazy to look it up, but point being the two siesmic layers are about 600m apart and will be encountered within a week of each other.  Other point, the wingat site will keeping drilling past the main prospect, so if you are an optimist, first results could be available  7 weeks post spud-in.
