Hey there, Let's clear up a bit of confusion. While stainless steel, an alloy containing nickel, is vital for building hydrogen infrastructure due to its corrosion resistance - it's not the primary driver of demand. That distinction belongs to nickel itself, which is the essential component of the electrolyzer's catalyst. Chromite (an element in stainless) on the other hand, has ...more

You're incorrect about the revelance of chromite in hydrogen production. The ideal stainless used in production of hydrogen (316L) contains 16%-18% chromium and 10%-12% nickel.

I appreciate the breakdown of 316L stainless steel chemistry. I have a spectrometer at my disposal and am fully familiar with its composition. The chemical structure of 316L stainless steel—with 16-18% chromium, 10-14% nickel, along with molybdenum—isn't in question. While it's excellent for structural integrity and corrosion resistance in industrial applications, it doesn't play a ...more

Just a little light reading before bed. This will most likely break this thread. Love it!

That process will only use small amount of Cr2o3 - so ?  Steelmaking uses the most .
