"Due to the tectonic characteristics of the country, oil and gas reserves are deep, drilling wells causes difficulties and requires high costs," he said. "For example, Somon-Oil had to drill 4 km deep to find a layer of oil, but temporarily stopped working due to financial difficulties."
According to the head of the Main Department of Geology, the work will continue.
The fields are located in the northern part of Tajikistan, within the Fergana Depression and in the south - within the Afghan-Tajik depression.
Industry experts believe that the opening of a large gas and oil field in Tajikistan can open the way for serious investments in this industry of the country experiencing an energy crisis.
The explored oil reserves in Tajikistan amount to 2.2 million tons, and gas - 3.4 billion cubic meters. As previously stated, 28 oil fields have been registered in Tajikistan.
