Sports nutrition driving whey success
Increased demand from the sports nutrition anddietary supplements industries could see the US whey protein approach500 million pounds (250 million kg) by 2015, says a new report.

Global Industry Analysts’ “Whey Proteins: A US& European Market Report” is predicting that high-end technologicaldevelopments and increased R&D spending are opening doors forincreased use of whey protein concentrates and isolates on both sides ofthe Atlantic. The United States and Europe are the two biggest marketsfor whey protein.

Whey has long been viewed as a secondaryproduct within the dairy industry, used simply as a means of feed foranimals and not as an added-value ingredient. That, however, ischanging, particularly with the impact of high milk costs on theindustry.
