The lapse in compliance is fixable. Lots of capital. The overhang on the stock is how big is the cheque for the fine going to be? Once that cheque's written, it should be fine. Will force them to be a better bank. Being prevented from acquiring means they can put $$ to use on strengthening what they have.

Oops, blew that BUY Bank of Montreal(BMO-T) 08/08/2024   Relatively cheap. Great dividend yield. Opportunity to buy. As interest rates come down, they'll do better. Issue of credit quality in US, but it has built in reserves and has lots of capital. Remember that Canadian banking operates in an incredible regulatory environment. banks   ...more
