Simple question if sears holding in states goes bankrupt,will it take sears Canada with it.???

Many retailers have gone through bankruptcy and kept their name for brand value such as KMart.  In this case Sears Holdings owns 12 percent of sears canada.  At 1.22 a share would only cost Lampert 15 Million or so to buy this out which is the most likely event to happen here.  Not so sure Sears Holdings is going to go bankrupt though as takes a willing owner.  Based on last ...more

Sears Canada is a separate company with a separate corporate structure. Sears Holdings only own about 10% of the shares, or whatever their stake is now. Therefore, Sears Holdings financial state has no bearing on Sears Canada's financial state. However, unless Sears Canada starts generating an operating profit they will be in the same situation as Sears Holdings - I give it a year. SCC cannot ...more
