Just forget to say that Quasimodo is ''UP'' 7,1 % so far this year and  of course with a cash position never seen before.

Guess what's up over 10%, this year? Isn't that close to 40%, annualized? LOL

He who hesitates is lost.   I am out.  Banks are down  ~13% for their highs and pay a better divy.  Looking for better upside on SP and divy.  Maybe Tou and TD. Good luck to all

I sold the last of my shares today too. Bought some prefs, ALA.PR.E. Lots of prefs getting wacked today, not sure why. If anyone has any thoughts?

I suspect you are one of many.   ALA has a lot of of investors who have waited for a long time to unload their position.  The ironic thing is,  there are plenty of new investors quite willing to take them off your hands at these seemingly lofty levels.  Might give  one pause for thought as we break into all time highs.   A lot of the posts are focussed on their ...more

Now that's funny - "break into all time highs". Are you forgetting ALA hitting $52.57on Sep 2, 2014. I remember those days really well as ALA used to be a fav for me back then before Harris, Cornhole, & the stooges ruined it with the WGL purchase.

Ahh Sarge,  I don't go that far back so for me it is,  however, yes,  you are correct. That said besides busting my chops over that,  it doesn't change anything about my opinion concerning the future for ALA.  I can see trading in the $30's and then the $40's if you give it enough time.  Those that were willing and able to average down on this name ...more

Spot on with the "sold in disgust". My wife & I held ALA from Aug/2010 to Oct/2020 and managed a meager $10.2k profit over that period. It went from one of our "best" investments to one of our worst. It still ranks as my biggest disappointment as far as investments go,  Such is life and we've moved on to greener pastures. Just like to pop by every now and again ...more

The chart tell the storey Quite clear that you miss an opportunity to sell and a huge disappointment and an ''hated''stock for you. You sold when the stock came back where you bought 10 years earlier and collecting the div all along ! And what is another pain for you s the fact that you sold when  it was the time  to hold .... Thank you for your personal storey on ALA

I totally realize you can't get them all correctly. What bothered me was that I bought ALA under one set of conditions (ie: great Canadian company with great Camadian assets) but that drastically changed with WGL. My actual mistake (aka "learning lesson") was not selling right away once the WGL deal was announced and ALA was trading around $30. I naively believed management and how ...more

The classic hindsight reflection; I know, I have thought the same thing. A regulated US utility delivering larger dividend increases? More like an over-levered balance sheet. Imagine if AltaGas still had half the assets that they were forced to sell. What is clear to me upon reflection, is that management should never be trusted until after they have delivered a few times. Where is Harris now ...more
