Isn’t the 25% tariff threat about border security?

I am surprised the tariff threat on Canada has not brought on more discussion about immigration and more effective cooperation with US border security? Trump is totally transactional and hopefully this important tariff issue can be resolved where both Canada and the US will continue to grow business and create good jobs! The last thing Canada needs is a trade war with our closest ally.

Border security is a bullshit excuse. Trump is making up a false national issue so he can decide all alone. Otherwise, it would have to go to congress and senate.  there is no immigration or drug problem at the border and it is up to the Americans to protect their border from who and what they don't want. Canadians are responsible for their part of what comes in the country.

Now that Mark Carney is getting into the game maybe we can have a more intelligent political conversation and to develop an effective strategy to deal with the tariff threath. I was not a Trudeau supporter and looking at Poilieves as Canada's only other option near term was scary. Im not as much of a pessimist as many here and looking for practical resolutions so everyone comes out ahead.It
