Trump haters

Why do people on this site hate Trump? He will be doing a good job for United States ,that's why people elected him. We have people to blame in Canada for the mess we are in. Tariffs are a good thing and most don't get it on this site, we control our borders and no tariffs. Simple. The 51 st state is another good idea then China would not be a threat to us or the states . You don't pay your fees for states protection then you deserve to not be protected and China has no use for Canada thanks to Trudeau . Look in your own backyard before you go running other world leaders down . Mexico has said nothing , don't expand and create a problem when a bit of common sense will fix it . Bombardier has a plant in the states anyway . Don't create a problem when none exists.gltal. Dave

"We control our borders and no tariffs "obviously you do not comprehend what that orange orangutan is trying to do .. he wants to make money , for himself first , then his blind followers ... that's all he's done all his life , cheat people out of their products and services ... we have to show him that we don't need them ... we want to be the best trade partner , best ...more

Good post. Theyre all insecure Canadians with an inferiority complex. LOL.

Everyone is entitled to have their own opinions and it's true Canadians have a tendency to be mild mannered decent people. Trump has a very challenging mandate and has made a lot of promises. His track record doesn't inspire me but it's clear to me that not just in the US but in Canada change is desired and necessary. From my own observations over the years, Trump lovers tend to ...more

You obviously don't have a clue how tariffs work and who ends up paying for them in the end - average US citizens, so expect mass inflation quickly.  You will see it on every block in the USA when gas goes up $1/gallon among many many things.
Comment by flamingogold on Jan 15, 2025 11:17am
I agree totally that Canada needs to pay it's agreed share for NATO defence. We have renegged on that deal. That's where it ends.   I have no interest however in becoming American or a 51st state. Trump is an America First protectionist president. That means everyone else is just collateral damage to achieve that at all cost. If you do not wish to be Canadian that is fine, you can ...more

straight out question - why?  when Canada doesn't have enemies like the USA does.  especially when the world is chicken against Russia to send troops to Ukraine.  Of course if its a weak military country like Afganishan or Iraq, sure no issues, we can fight those guys, they have flashlights taped to their guns aka Persian Gulf war #1 Also, no one asked the USA to be the world ...more

Hey J&D. I'm not against Tarrifs. Never was. 40 years ago when Canada under Mulrooney, elected to destroy our industrial, Retail, & Manufacturing autonomy. Just to appease the US, who was after our natural resources..Canada became dependent on the US manufacturing. This dependency has been going on 40 years. To suddenly change this Agreement by the US is unfair and very challenging ...more

J&D - We do not exactly all hate Trump, we just do not have on ounce of respect for him. I don't get how people can come to vote for such an individual.. He's very good at plenty of things though, that, I have to admit, and these things are: 1 - Lying pretty much all the time and getting that fact to not matter in the end. 2 - Using the justice system at his advantage to not be ...more

Ford had some great words of wisdom today : Canada should strike back at U.S. tariffs 'twice as hard': Doug Ford at premiers meeting Ontario Premier Doug Ford says he is a strong believer in hitting the U.S. back with retaliatory tariffs if Trump implements them against Canada.   January 15, 2025 at 11:33AM EST
Comment by Shamhorish on Jan 15, 2025 1:27pm

It’s better than doing nothing; especially when dealing with a bully. And the scale of the tariffs can always be adjusted if we see US tanks iddling at the border.
Comment by bicente on Jan 15, 2025 2:07pm
Because they don't have the funds to close their borders ...this is another form of " build a wall and make Mexico pay for it " ... de doesn't actually know , or have a faint clue , how to run the counrty so all he does is spew insanities and lies ... he doesn't have the ballz to go East to see the real problems so he tries with us to see what he can squeeze out of us . ...more

Unfortunately, you are wrong. We cannot survive without the US. And, read my comments before you respond too. I do not support Trump and do not wish to be swallowed up by them but our economy will be crushed without the USA.

I don’t think we have time to change our habits. We lost the last nine years with the green illusion. We could have used this time to diversify our customer base for our natural ressources, send western oil east instead of south at a discount. Some contracts with Europe could have been secured while making them share the costs of the infrastructures. I am convinced they would have gladly joined ...more

That oil can be refined in Quebec I understand. So it has to serve both Ontario & Quebec. Maybe we can pay Alberta the same price as the US does. This will reduce our gas prices at the pump.  Alberta says that we are going cut off our supply in Ontario & Quebec, if we cut turn off line 5 in Michigan. So then the refining has to be done in Quebec. Plus we can use the oversupply of ...more

BBD, line 5 serves Sarnia.  Brought in by train, it doesn't have to go to Quebec. TMX was brought in to provide an increased tide-water outlet for Alberta oil since the Americans have historically demanded a "discount" from Alberta oil (no other choice being land locked).  The TMX line has apparently been reducing that discount for Alberta oil.  The new TMX customers ...more

Thanks Chris. What I was referring to was, that we have to refine our own Alberta oil and meanwhile we provide a market for their oil, while using the USA discount, for Ontario. Sounds like Quebec should be capable of refining for us in Ontario as well as Quebec. If they can solve their sulfer rifining capability. Right now the GAS is the only comodity that's troubling to Canada. We have ...more

There is a refinery on the south shore of Quebec City and I think there is still a least one on the eastern part of Montreal  Two reasons that come in my mind for this situation ( imported crude) , first  reason ( green illusion) western crude is considered « dirty ».  Second and I think real reason, Quebec refineries cannot refine crude with ...more

Actually, the opposite. He's a bully but he holds all the cards. A retaliation will make it worse for Canada. This is why I say any Canadian who supports Trump is a traitor. There is no good to us that will come from a tariff war.

Unfortunately, we are in a no-win situation and Trump knows it. We essentially have no government now. Any tariffs on us will hurt, 10% puts us in a recession by the summer, 25% by Spring. And that's with no retaliation from us. If we retaliate, it adds fuel to the fire. The US gets a slap on the face, but we get hurt even worse.
Comment by Letsmakemoredol on Jan 15, 2025 2:27pm
I guarantee if Ontario/Quebec shuts off electcity to NE USA you will have rioting in less than 24 hours.  Shut off the oil pipelines to the US and when people see $5,6,7,8 per gallon at the pumps there will be rioting coast to coast calling for "death to Trump" We don''t have power?  sorry, we do, we just have to know where the strengths are.
Comment by flamingogold on Jan 15, 2025 2:35pm
As I said, there will be much pain from a tariff war on both sides. But, the US could survive a retaliation from us. We likely would not. Unemployment here would spike to double digits. Inflation would come back forcing the Bank of Canada to increase rates. How well is that going to work out for us when people with mortgages lose their job and now have higher financing cost on top?
Comment by BBDB859 on Jan 15, 2025 2:50pm
You are right Flamingo. All those things will happen to our economy if we retaliate. Inflation & unemployment is a given. But the point here is that, we don't have any choice. We have to retaliate. So given that fight that Trump proposes, canada will have to pick and chose which Tarrifs are the most effective ones. So Ford is right. Use the energy supply to hit them where it hurts. Meanwhile while all this is happening of us. While we're trying to figure out how to be self-sufficient for GAS and the Tarrif war going on. This is the most sane answer to the problem of retaliation I've read all day!   "On the other hand, if we go nuclear with our retaliation, we risk creating a new American savior that will take care of these arrogant canadians that let the American people freeze and in the dark. He will have full backing of his people and we will lose our country "

I see it that way too; we install tariffs that will offset the losses incurred by the US tariffs,  no more, no less. We have to remember that we are dealing with a superpower and we have to make sense in our response. At least the American people will understand us even if their leader doesn’t or doesn’t want to.
