First time buyer today

And I'm old. Despite approaching the age of senility, even I can see that this company has lost all attraction for institutional investors.

Seems to me that the first move to win them back is to adopt a responsible dividend policy, pay off some debt ( like a billion US per year for a few years), and eventually buy back some shares.

If such a plan isn't forthcoming in the next 3 months, I'll be gone. I find it hard to believe that the B of D has allowed this company to sink so far, so quickly, without ACTION of some or any kind.

Agree, especially since the chairman of the board was a long tenured ceo,of rbc and should know something about fiscal discipline.

your post is bang on templetooth.  On a clear day.... You can see how _________________ management and the Board of Directors are. First, adding debt year after year, living beyond their means. Second, paying (and increasing!) a dividend that exceeds free cashflow. Third, acquiring companies they have no busiess acquiring. A long held pattern at BCE. Fourth, assuming revenues will ...more

Pablo...good points Yes BCE has bought companies that they had no business buying.  I recall the "adventure" into real estate in the 90s.  Frankly, I hope their latest attempt in the US works but I must admit that I am skeptical.  The US is a tough market to say the least. I agree, like anything in this world, the first step towards improving a situation is to admit that ...more

I am a Bell shareholder with a significant holding and I have Bell's Virgin plan which allows 1000 minutes to call from Canada to a list of say up to 18 countries, the list changes from time to time, mostly countries where Canada has brought in a lot of immigrants historically, i.e. a targeted market. In March we went on vacation to India and we had some issues with hotel bookings and it was ...more

flush...good points Yes I would also be worried about Musk.  On every cruise I have taken, the onboard internet uses Musk.  As for your point about the Freedom plan not lasting, I guess it all about the math.  Given how much I travel and where, I could still pay more per month on Freedom and it would still be cheaper than Bell or Rogers but then perhaps I am not typical. As well ...more

Exp, you may also recall BCE buying Teleglobe after their monopoly on international traffic had ended.  The combination of a Management Team and BoD that don't admit their mistakes and are much more likely to double down instead AND a telecom investment into a highly competitive market in which they have no experience in should probably scare the living daylights out of most investors ...more
