CEO

should step down ASAP for poor performance and take a salary cut
Comment by Quintessential1 on Aug 23, 2022 10:43pm
I would say your mom should step down and take a salary cut but she is practicaly giving it away at her prices. Third quarter 2022 earnings: EPS in line with expectations. Third quarter 2022 results: EPS: CA$2.10 (up from CA$2.00 in 3Q 2021). Revenue: CA$7.39b (flat on 3Q 2021). Net income: CA$2.50b (up 3.2% from 3Q 2021). Profit margin: 34% (up from 33% in 3Q 2021). Revenue missed analyst ...more

Agree something needs to give. Most of the weakness was from the Latin America division. This was a risky move years ago by the ceo and board to diversify into the region while other banks like bmo and td went into the USA. Now we are here. Some heads need to roll that's for sure. We are down over 5 years while all other Canadian banks are up by 20-40 percent. What does that say about ...more

I totally agree that Porter has done a really poor job as CEO. He took over in Nov, 2013 and BNS has consistently under-performed the other 3 banks we own since then,  I can recall a number of moves that have blown up where they bought something only to sell it later at a reduced price. My wife & I are buy & hold dividend income investors and we do like the larger payout. Capital ...more

Well, don't hold your breath. The new CEO has an abysmal track record. That is one of the major reasons this stock is performing so poorly.

Just curious at to what you are referring to on Thomson's "abysmal track record"? It looks to me that he did a pretty good job as President and CEO of Finnng. Before that he was CFO sat Talisman and I can't find anything negatvie directly related to him.  I also see Thomson just took aover as president Dec 1 and will take-over as CEO on Feb 1. Porter is hanging around aa an ...more

Here's an interesting comment on Thomson from the Post. Thomson’s career has run the gamut of important-to-Canada industries, including executive positions with BCE Inc.’s Bell Canada, one of the country’s big telecommunications firms, and a stint as chief financial officer of oil-and-gas producer Talisman Energy Inc. He became CEO of Finning, which services the country’s sizable ...more

Sarge no worries here. I welcome the change. BNS is a huge money making company with many layers of talented staff. GLTA longs

Just to clairify, DavidEEE wrote "Hope the new CEO will be a positive for shareholders" I was just commenting.  I've held BNS for over 20 years and it has not performed well. Thomson is NOT the person to turn this bank around IMO. I hope I'm wrong Abysmal may not be the "correct" word but compared to it's peers Finning’s stock market performance under Mr ...more

I heard one of the Bloomberg guests talking about Thomson last week. Sorry can't remember which one. His opinion was that he is coming from a dufferent background and may be a good thing for BNS. Remember though many stocks are not doing so well and we are collecting a sweet dividend.

lumpyone, I agree with you about Thompson. I am not a fan of outside CEOs in Canadian Banks, and REALLY not a fan of Thompson. Finning far underperformed under his leadership, and nothing I know of his time at other major places made him a standout of any kind. His biggest assest is smooze and self promotion.

Worst Canadian Bank Performer  Why did the CEO retired? Does he know something that the shareholders do not know? I

Really?  You're going to try and bash a Canadian bank stock? Have you been sharing your Mom's crack? Move on dude you're wasting your time.
