Typically, in an efficient market, most preferred shares see their bid reduced by the amount of the quarterly dividend the day they go ex-dividend (14th in this case). However considering the low volume and large spread between bid and ask already experienced by BPO preferred shares, each issue may show different result. ...efficient market...share price reduce by dividend...    I don't know about you, but to me nothing efficient about this market, nor does this "logic" applies to Prefer Shares.   Prefer Shares don't participate in the company gains/losses like common shares.   Prefer Share are more like debt.   If company has a BIG WINFALL, common shares ...more

If you want to do a real survey why don't you take an hour or two and check the price of all BPO preferred issues the day prior to going ex-dividend and the day the shares went ex-dividend for the last four quarterly cycles. I'll check out the G's as it has the highest Dividend, so be easier to see price change.

It only took four minutes and I checked BPO.PR.T Going back to December 2022, the four closing prices (day before and ex-div day) show: .50, .31, .22 and .17 for an average of .30 The actual dividend is .3364

do the year 2021...... share price not on a down trend, as that would skew share prices to the down side.
