BTE most likely moving Domicile to US..

Like encana , I think this takeover BTE probability of moving to US has significantly increased today..

Oil companies in US valuation are a lot better..

I thought it was an oppotunistic takeover ..

Nobody knows its coming..

This is a very realistic possibility. Most of the production will be in the US in an oil friendly jurisdiction with plenty of pipeleins to take the oil to Europe at higher than WTI prices.

Definitely instant increased US exposure with this deal which has resulted in much better valuation for oil companies. Call it the Trudeau effect.

You literally TOOK the words right out of my thoughts & mouth. Many investors here (guys like Masfortuna with similar but flawed thinking) aren't that experienced or knowledeable in this sector, with these O&G companies, and many either don't know ALL the past histories of some of them or they easily forget! I've quickly examined this deal, just superficially, and i can already ...more

I didn't comment on management.  I commented on the actual deal. as for management, the completely went in a different direction than where they said they would be going.

Agreed...   Things are pointing to this direction....   hired a CEO from the south...relisted in NYSE...bought Ranger...   stayed further away from Trudeau effect ....

Funny how CNQ, the gold standard in Canadian O&G E&P companies in my view, seems to do just fine as a Canadian-based company with top notch management and outstanding assets. Doesn't appear to mind this so-called "Trudeau Effect". Most companies in this sector are trades in my opinion, and that includes BTE. Bad news: Made an acqusition that tanked the share price and ...more

It's funny but I have been thinking that very thing myself . Canada has no appreciation for the companies so keep a technical team in Calgary and move head office to Houston , they already have "tex" in the name .

Yeah, that first Eagle Ford purchase by BTE in 2014 when they bought Aurora was a real home run for shareholders. IMO, this company (like most in the O&G E&P sector) is a trade, not a buy and hold, If you bought between March 2020 and March 2021, you made out like a bandit. O&G stocks had their big run from Spring 2021 to Fall 2022. Who thinks there's an enchore in store for 2023. ...more

I totally agree with you, JTDOUBLE. Encana was doing well in Canada; but, then, it started to go down and when COVID started...it was awful. Then, they moved to America and slowly...they've improved. As we know...most Oil stocks suffered today.  I think this is a great opportunity to accumlate more Baytex shares. As you say: "nobody knows it's coming."  But, it will be ...more
