I remember former US defense secretary under Obama  Chuck Hagel refuting the idea that Putin was bluffing with a pair of 7's in his hand when Putin took over Crimea. Hagel countered that Putin ain't playing poker. He's playing chess. My bet is that he's behind this. Let's see how it plays out. I'm not smart enough to predict anything except to lean strongly towards oil ...more

All of this is the latest chapter of the Israeli-Palestinian war.  It is a local conflict that will never have any peaceful resolution.  There is no need to involve outside powers except Iran which is unofficially at war with Israel.

Well both higher oil prices and rampant inflation in the west help Putin. Outside powers may not be involved but they will be directly affected.

I have seen these flare ups many times before.  They are blips. Putin's got his own problems.  He can't afford to devastate the west.

You know what the Grand Bargin is right? With Isreal US and Sauds , US gets cheaper Oil, Sauds get Nuke power (cough nukes?) CNN talking head made a great point Iran does not want them getting nuke power so how better to tross a wrench into the deal then to start a... his words not mine.

Well retiredgeo I guess that we see things differently. To me it's in Putin's best interests that the west and NATO get devastated. That way he has much less resistance to his expansionist agenda.

Iran is now funded by the US,,,latest hostage deal and the repreive on sanctions...
