Capital Expenditures 1st QTR
Is there a strategy to front loading capital expenditures applied to first quarter and is it necessary?
Would it make better sense to have a balanced out cap ex budget throughout the year so that each qtr better represents the financials of Baytex?
Did the company purposely frontload to keep shares down for buybacks which add value in the long run?
I have over 1/2 of my portfolio in Baytex fortunately bought at much lower prices. I will continue to hold long term hoping for the best.

Texas has roads to almost everywhere! Look at Texas road map compared to Alberta and Saskatchewan. So yes, they require much more off roading here in Canada. Obviously frozen land as you state is best for this.

It's for environmental reasons as well. They want it so that when the wells are reclaimed that whole area can be returned back to nature so they purposely don't pave the roads. Of course costs are a factor too.

for those who DON'T KNOW: - the OPERATOR is RESPONSIBLE for the SAFE PASSAGE of ALL CONTRACT VEHICLES (drilling rigs etc.) on their LEASED LAND - that is why they have BULLDOZERS ON STANDY if they get STUCK - HEAVY LOAD VEHICLES will EASILY DESTROY EVEN PAVED ROADS unless the UNDERBASE of the road is EXPENSIVELY HARDENED {this is ONLY DONE on MAJOR DESIGNATED HIGHWAYS} z173

Congratulations, you've done it correctly. The number one mistake in retail is thinking, "If I can just break even, I'll sell," instead of considering the bigger picture and realizing you can recover your losses much faster by shifting to your best idea.

Depends what your next "best" idea is .......... plenty of times in a persons trading history the next "best" idea brought more losses, lol.
