Capital Expenditures 1st QTR

Is there a strategy to front loading capital expenditures applied to first quarter and is it necessary?

Would it make better sense to have a balanced out cap ex budget throughout the year so that each qtr better represents the financials of Baytex?

Did the company purposely frontload to keep shares down for buybacks which add value in the long run?

I have over 1/2 of my portfolio in Baytex fortunately bought at much lower prices. I will continue to hold long term hoping for the best.

Since your handle suggests that you live down south it might not be obvious, but in Canada a lot of these non-thermal plays require frozen over lands in order to support the weight of the rig equipment to go to these remote locations and drill. When spring breakup happens, then the ground gets too soft and they get stuck so they do a lot of drilling in the wintertime. Hope that explains things

Texas has roads to almost everywhere!   Look at Texas road map compared to Alberta and Saskatchewan.  So yes, they require much more off roading here in Canada.  Obviously frozen land as you state is best for this.

It's for environmental reasons as well. They want it so that when the wells are reclaimed that whole area can be returned back to nature so they purposely don't pave the roads. Of course costs are a factor too.

I don't see firms buying up stocks, I see alot of selling, investors are looking elsewhere for a return, not in a company that continuesly loses money, looks like Nuttall is still wrong after 2 years of being his #1pick, just not Nuttall but other so called analysts. Well well raven 16,  yup took my loses and got out, put my money on beta pro natural gas bull(HNU), good thing i did, i got my loses back and then some, 30% in 5 days, not a bad return I'd say, while raven 16 you're down almost 9% in 5 days, keep playing the long game it'll come to you in 2 years, as far as I know this is still a free country and we can come on to any open forum

Congratulations, you've done it correctly. The number one mistake in retail is thinking, "If I can just break even, I'll sell," instead of considering the bigger picture and realizing you can recover your losses much faster by shifting to your best idea.

There is nothing unusual about doing the majority of drilling in western Canada during the winter months of Q4 and Q1. In the spring when the county activates the road bans, moving rigs becomes impossible without damaging the roads. Drilling activity slows down to a crawl at this time.
