Maybe the Iranians secerately helped the Russians? Why do people assume that people frim the mid East are stupid? Google "algebra" and you will find a Persian who developed it. Recently we have a celebrated professor at Stanford who won the mathematics equivalent of the Nobel prize, the fields meda (see link below)l. Sadly she has died. Don't underestimate these people. The US attracts the best brains in the world and why it will always prevail and slways be a wealth creating machine where maybe 5% of the planet's population creates so much wealth that it makes up over 30% of global GDP. Islam is a religion of peace whether you like it or not - the Daesh and al qaeda are operative tools funded and armed by the west to sow war in region and bring instability. Your hahahhaa is pathetic. Wow, the invasion of the board is in full swing.  Intellect squashed and then manipulated by a religion that aspires to its own crusade.  Thanks but no thanks friend.  Lets stick to economics and our investment rather than esoteric philosophy.  The questions is now, how does Israel not hit the oil facilities?  How high does the short squeeze send oil or do they double down ...more

Stick to whatever you want but don't tell us what to stick to. We're talking macro possible outcomes. How's that esoteric? Quite pragmatic in my opinion. OK so Israel takes 2 million per day off of the market supply. Short term prices spike but it causes demand destruction as global inflation goes nuts. Then how might Iran respond? Would they decide that "if we can't ship oil ...more
Comment by HeavyBanana on Oct 03, 2024 10:05am
Hey Kelvin, what do you feel the demand destruction timeline would be if prices ran up hard? 6 months of super high oil or something much shorter?  I won't mind scoring on such a scenario as energy stock prices would soar along the way to the inevitable demand destruction correction and I'd jump off at the point it seems economies are being severly damaged. I can see max profit if ...more

HeavyBanana, I have no idea of the time lag between cause and effect if oil prices ran up to, say, $110 per barrel or more. Cleveland Fed said that oil prices contribute about 30% to inflation. As inflation increases consumers cut back on consumption unless real wages rise in lockstep with inflation.  So I guess that the question is what would happen to inflation as oil prices rise and what ...more

I think the Saudis will fill any gap of lost Iranian oil.
Comment by Kelvin on Oct 03, 2024 11:17am
Yeah that's what I was thinking as well. There are a few producers with surge capacity that would love oil prices to move up. Russia needs the cash for one. Take Iran offline for a while would suit them just fine.
Comment by robert41 on Oct 03, 2024 11:27am
I guess if Iran went after Saudi oil then who the F knows what will happen
Comment by liljohnnyjoke on Oct 03, 2024 11:30am
didnt they already  do that in 2019? so not a stretch

Go back to '22. No, not 2022. Or 1922. More like 0022. Or 1000 years earlier.

One month until the election. No matter the victor, the skies over, and seas surrounding,  Iran will change dramatically. Nothing until after the election unless provoked. Crawl into your bunker, put on the noise canceling headphones, it's going to get unpleasant.
Comment by riski on Oct 03, 2024 6:16pm
This is what I was thinking until the last few days, but I think you are right. Iran is loathe to hand Trump the white house for 4 years because oil prices skyrocket.  I don't think this is ground breaking though. All of retail and institution are sitting on the sidelines until after the election to jump into energy and watching this rally nervously with FOMO creeping in. If the rally ...more

This was badly written. What I meant to say is that Iran is loathe to hand Trump the white house by deepening their dispute with Israel. Increased attacks would cause the price of oil to skyrocket making gas prices increase in USA which makes uninformed American voters think that the current government is mismanaging the economy and needs to go. Iran wants to avoid this. They are walking a fine ...more

Riski....I think that is one dimensional thinking.  No offense meant.  They had to try and salvage some respect and hope to derail Netty.  I believe they have already or are trying to get better missiles into Yemen. Israel is watching closely. Netty is also trying to take out Hezbollahs ability to use the big guns thus isolating Iran.  It is obvious, at least to me, the Iranian ...more

But Iran has already hit Israel, and now it's Israel's turn. So you think Iran will now just take what is coming their way?
