Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo said that the number of migrants arriving at the border with the United States has decreased by 75%.
Following statements by Republican candidate Donald Trump, in which he threatened that if he were to become president of the United States, he would impose 25% tariffs if Mexico did not stop the flow of migrants and organized crime, Sheinbaum Pardo reiterated that migration has decreased considerably since December 2023.
In the
morning press conference , Sheinbaum Pardo highlighted Mexico's efforts to reduce migration through different areas of the government.
"Sometimes there is not enough information" within the Democratic and Republican parties about the efforts Mexico has made to reduce migration or the presence of migrants at the border," he said.
The federal president assured that there will be good relations, regardless of who wins the presidential elections.
“From December 2023 to the end of October (2024), there is a 75% decrease in migrants arriving at the northern border,” Sheinbaum reiterated.
He said it is very important that when Donald Trump or Kamala Harris are confirmed as the winner, there should be meetings and information between high-level authorities from both countries, so that it is known what Mexico has done against drug trafficking.
"I am convinced that there will be a good relationship and that there must be this initial information process and collaboration and coordination," she added.
