General update

What is trending?  Trudeaudick increased capital gains on investments resulting  sell off before it comes into effect. Lot of dividend stocks are suffering as a result. CEO of SRU .UN sold over half a million shares.Own this as well. Last week Bank of Canada dropped interest rates in fear of mortgage refinancing. Apparently 67 % of  mortgages pending for renewal in 2025/26 . Dropping interest rates is  definitively not good idea since it will put pressure on inflation as CDN $ drops against US. I owe about 20 dividend stocks and remember during the last year my portfolio dropped almost 20% as I am cashing out all my dividends. Now only reinvesting ones in SDRSP because my wife is still working. In the fall recovered everything plus gained 8% to reach all time high. Recently going down again  as of now 4% . In my opinion since there is only one pile of money and since real estate and land investments are dead the most of the money will go into equities hopefully my portfolio won't go down like last year. I own EIF in two accounts. In one of them  payed $ 34.46 up 25 % in the other one  down 11% average price $ 48.66 as I added more recently the way too early. Time Builder suggested to take profit but the question is when you do that what to buy? It is not easy to pick up a new dividend stock and go green again. A few months ago I picked up BK up 3.5 % , CPX up 12% , MAIN up $ 9% ,RWT up 4% ,bud got hit on BIP.UN and AD.UN. Since retired I need dividend income so I will wait and hydrate and in mean time collect and grow dividends. As of now collecting about $ 25 000 a year goal was to collect $30 000 but gave money to my daughter for down payment to kick her out of my house. As I always say the best thing about having kids is to make them.

Love it..! You might have made a case for me to pick up a little more EIF today.

I'd look at it this way: every indication available tells you that this dividend will continue to increase over time as this company grows both earnings and dividends paid out.  The dollars invested today will pay out 8% in 10 years time with the future dividend increases..., imho  Long in Winnipeg

They are better reason why to invest in EIF. My neighbour owns it for so many years and his price was around $16. He told me the main reason he bought it back then was because the company was created by former MP. There is nothing better when certain businesses have a bed in parliament hill like Air Canada, Bombardier to name a few. These government darlings when they when they screw up get bailed ...more

Maplak your comment reminds me of Calian Tech where CEO left and company went downhill. Once he came back government contracts blossomed again. As to EIF, politician or no. I do like the company but find it is a trading stock more than treated as value. Still, am mainly watching to see trend thru to June 25th when, if enacted, new Capital Gains regs will be in place. It has been such a short ...more

Lol. Speaking of politicians involved in companies. I will post the link since I was a part of it at that time. Stock was trading around $3. When USA market collapsed  2007 Consolided Thomson dropped to $1. I started to buy when I found out politician Tobin got involved. CEO Quesnel got charged for illegal trading and had to step down as Tobin became CEO. Thanks to Chrtien connections in ...more

I'm not sure it is correct to say (as previous post) that this company was started by an MP, but their Board Chair for many years was Gary Filmon, the former premier of MB.  This company has always lived by it's own numbers, and not gov't bailouts like Bombardier.  I would never invest in a scheme like Bombardier that is essentially a subsidy sucking oporation, not a business ...more

I think you are more less right. They are different from AC and Bombardier. I just put them in the same bag since big portions of their revenue is coming from government. Emergency services . The latest analyst  Rebecca Teltscher said they have some kind of mini monopoly in this business but yes over all this is very well run company. I own them in two accounts just added recently collecting ...more
