CDNS

Are sadly not much different than their counterparts in the US.   Trump's base remains
loyal to the bitter end now matter what abuses of office and threats to democracy he
poses or commits.   Cdns keep voting for a leader who loves to bask in the cloak of
popularism and the idealogical flavour of environmentalism with complete disregard
to how and where the money is to come from to support its population.

Steering Canada to economic suicide seems to pose no problem for JT and those who
keep voting for him.   Canada has only its resources to offer to the world in exhange for a decent
standard of living but our leadership seems bent on killing that source of wealth in exchange
for some handshakes and photo ops.   There is nothing wrong with reducing GHG levels,
but it needs to be done intelligently without disrupting whole segments of our economy.
A little bit of gradulism would go a lot further in terms of idealolgy than savaging the very
economic base that is the very source of our wealth.  Going green is an  admirable goal
but like a parasite that eats its host,  eventually it destroys what is keeping it alive.

I don't think you understand what popularism is or anything else for that matter.
Comment by Pandora on Dec 27, 2020 4:43pm
How about "populism" instead?
Comment by Quintessential1 on Dec 27, 2020 5:20pm
Populism would better describe the Trump administration and equating its slash and burn policies with the Trudeau administration would be idiotic.  They are juxtaposed
Comment by hoffbag on Dec 27, 2020 7:21pm
Take your pick of the populist spectrum. It's neither right or left.
Comment by Pandora on Dec 27, 2020 7:47pm
And I was just trying to point out that 'popularism' is not correct terminology - the correct word is 'populism' as you have now used.
Comment by Quintessential1 on Dec 27, 2020 8:15pm
It wasn't the term the original poster used.   I know what you were trying to do.
Comment by shasta on Dec 27, 2020 11:47pm
"Populism would better describe the Trump administration" No it would not. The US is a republic. Populism describes a democracy, ie. majority rule.
Comment by Pandora on Dec 28, 2020 1:33am
The major difference between a democracy and a republic is that a republic is a form of government whereas a democracy is "an ideology" that helps shape how a government is run. Put another way: a republic is the system of government that allows a country to be democratic! In political science, populism is the idea that society is separated into two groups at odds with one another ...more

"In political science," Yes, we all know how leftist polysci teachers like to distort the meaning of words until they no longer have any meaning. Still, Merriam-Webster still seems to think otherwise. "Definition of democracy 1a : government by the people especially : rule of the majority"
Comment by Quintessential1 on Dec 28, 2020 9:44am
THAT Republic IS a Democracy.

teenaged girls are supposed to be starry eyed and concerned about the environment.  they turn into bitter old bags until they get older and marry a loser like muttpatrollives, aka trevorjplows.
