Intriguing end of day volumes

The last few days in Canada and  USA there  have been huge volume spikes at end of day. Today on tsx was very intriguing , 15 minutes before closing there had been 2.5 ms trades on an average 6.0 ms trade day, the last 15 MINUTES 5.5 m/s TRADED. Don't know what's happening but with the price and volume action something's up!

I agree, something is up. It is a bit too early in my mind for all this trading to be on anticipated earnings, Q4 call isn't until Feb 14th. With the change in government in the US, trying to be polite, there are soooo many things that can happen but if it truly is drill baby drill that is good news in a few ways for the pipeline sector.  Wish Canada could get it's act together and ...more

Same volume  burst and end of day today in NY. Ave vol 4.5 m, 2:45 pm 4.2 m, end of day 7 m traded so roughly 2.8ms last minute, This happened two days last week on the same exchange. not putting too much into this but to have two end of day volume surges at  for a number of days on both exchanges  is too much to ignore.

Ocalman...the same thing was going on a few years ago.  A friend of mine who also worked on The Street back in the day and I followed this closely for over a month.  We talked to ENB IR and speculated that there was the possibility of a takeover.  But after looking at the regulatory papers which show ownership data we could not find anything to account for the trading activity ...more

Experienced, no posts I have seen are getting ahead of ourselves. Volume can be a leading indicator to many new happenings, or as you say can mean nothing.   With an almost 6% dividend in a safe sector, I am sure many are like me and are just chilling and watching. ENB has had a great last 14-16 months, and shows no negative signs currently.  Glta

If I remember it right, Fantome (a great contributor for this board) said institutes did big transaction at the end of the day or use MOC to avoid price volatility. Buy order must have a sell order. So these transactions are coordinated. The following is from Morning Star. Last December, only sell no buy for a total of 42.7 million shares. In September, 154 million shares bought and 30.8 ...more

Experienced, Nobody needs valium the occurances are interesting on both market simultaniously you have to agree with that. After all , as you stated, you previously felt the same on a previous occasion and it turned out to be nothing, Have been a shareholder for 15 years and have enjoyed the ride but its fun to watch for trends and, after all, this is a message board for opinions and all are valid ...more

Ocalaman....my reference to valium was in jest.. My overall assessment of ENB is that it is a great company which has very smart people running it.  Over the past few years they have made some really important acquisitions and they did not pay a premium for them.  In that vein, I would also add that in their latest deal for the purchase of the US gas utilities including the associated ...more

What investor doesn't like to play " what if"  . I personally hope they stay as they are and think they are seeing the effects of those recent purchases , have 95% of thier capacity rate regulated and take or pay . I would hate to have to find a dividend replacement of such quality and pedigree. BUT one can always hope for an overnight double!!

NextTrend.....the key thing going on here has more to do something else that Trump is doing. What's that you ask? He has signed an Executive Order which bans the installation of wind and solar on Federal lands which cans many planned offshore wind projects and solar farms in the US Southwest.  This means that there will be greater reliance on natural gas to produce the electricity ...more

Thanks for this, being Canadian I only watch so much of him.....I already have severe ulcer issues haha!   I saw he signed a whole bunch of EO's, but missed that one. I have heard him bluster often about the big wind farms, hadn't heard about the solar ban. In Alberta people get subsidies for putting solar on your roof!    I agree with you both, and volume often is ...more

With cash building up and guidance strong, I have wondered for a while if ENB would ever consider spinning out a portion of the business like TRP did in 2024 with SOBO. It ended up being +- a 10% special dividend to all shareholders. It would be nice to see a similar move here, or potentially a nice special dividend. With the current economic climate that are quite a few potential catalysts for ...more
