I have CIBC Investors Edge and mine dripped too, but at the the pre special dividend price($3.8584).  Been on hold with them for an hour now.  My understanding is it had to be paid in cash.  The way they did it has me out a ton of cash.  My RBC account paid in cash on the 2nd.

you must have a broker DRIP - which generally means your broker buys the shares at market price on the day of the distribution.  The special distribution is not a regular distribution, and if they paid around $3.80 a share you have be short changed as the shares are now trading around  $1.30 less than you likely paid.  Time to seek clarifiication.

Needless to say this created a negative balance and I had to sort it out. It also seems to me the additional units were acquired on the open market and not as part of the DRIP program run by ERES REIT. The ERES DRIP program ...more

Exact same thing happened to me. Phoned RBCDI, they say the drip is legit, even though the company press release said special distribution not eligible for drip. Someone here said they may have used a broker to carry out the drip. Much confusion.
