Surprise

it's up 2.5 percent but 9 out of 10 of my stocks are up also. I don't own lots of FFN so not worried. You can't predict if the NAV will stay down or come back up unless you are a time traveler LoL.

You are right cant predict if the NAV will go up or down. However it is impossible for ta closed end fund to trade at a 35 45% for too long. The minimum that will happen is a seconday offering  that will beat up the stock. FFN has only done 3 in the last 14 month( ffffing pricks/crooks). Quadvest could care less about shareholders it is all about management fees. Well obviously 3 secondaries ...more

Well  you can actually try and predict if you like. AND i am saying FFN will go down more , before it bounces back up. Will be a good buy at around $4.50 . Correcting markets again today, are suggesting to me that the next several weeks will be more down than up. There are several good split funds that pay a  decent yield that might survive this down turn, paying to commons  without ...more

Would you be so kind as to tell me which ones are on your list? Thank you!.......

If you like financials, one that has most of the stocks that are in FFN, with a much higher bias towards CAD banks, i would suggest BK.  It keeps the yield at around 15% no matter where the stock price is sitting, altho you could see still capital losses . It will continue to pay for a while tho , with better than 7$ of safety for paying to commons. So for distributions , it will provide ...more

Would suggest waiting for the next treasury issue for BK -- last one was nearly 3 months ago -- before building a position. This assuming that other posters are correct that Quadravest will not issue new units if the pref is trading below par. BK/BK.pr.a along with FTN/FTN.pr.a are the only Quadravest issues that qualify.  Ps as I have significant short in FFN that biggest worry you mention ...more

You actually can predict the NAV on a fairly accurate daily basis (as mouserman and others so generously do on the splits). The result is knowing where the unit price will go. FFN and DF are perilously close to being underwater (if not so already) and as soon as that is official the commons will drop like a rock (I'm short both now). Those predictions allowed me to make $15k a number of years ...more
