Fed jacks rates 50 points this time.

And while that was more or less expected, the bad news that followed the 50 point announcement, was that interest  rate hikes are going to continue probably until 2024.Surefire war on the working class that most certainly will create a recession worthy of the history books. Home owners are already maxxing out credit cards to stay above water. There will be strikes for higher wages , as inflation has pushed the  poverty level up to the working class wage level. Interest rates being  continually jacked higher  only increases that  pain.

Unfortunately the rates were too low for too long, accompanied with printing and handing out money like it was candy. Now the piper must be paid as painful as that is. Allowing inflation to run unchecked is even more damaging in the long run, so as terrible as the medicine is, it must be served.

Higher wages? Hmm, that is opposite to what the FED is aiming for. They want the unemployment rate to tick higher, create more demand for the same job and thereby reduce wages. The unfortunate truth here is people pickled themselves with debt while rates were at historical lows. The answer is not higher wages. That would just mean inflation is here forever.

Much easier to blame the working class for the inflation woes , instead of the govt's creation of trillions of dollars for easy money to fight a flu pandemic . In turn that created shortages with lockdowns which hiked prices up , not to mention the Ukraine situation . Higher interest rates aren't going fix those mistakes. But it will create a bigger divide between the 1 % and the rest of ...more

Mouserman like your work on Navs your political cr#p not so much. I didn't spend 3 weeks in hospital with" the flu' and the Long Term Covid symptoms I still suffer from are no joke. BTW the trillions of dollars were not used to fight covid but to buffer the economy including the working class from impact of the pandemic.

I am with Mouserman on this one. People get sick and die for various reasons. I lost my first wife 29 years ago... I will lose my Sister in Law within 6 months; maybe before Christmas. Two other close friends will be gone by next Christmas. Maybe me with my health challenges. It is not dying that we should ever worry about; it is living life to the best until that happens. Regarding Covid ...more

I am a senior and play slo-pitch in an over 70 league. Our team has lost 4 players to cancer this year alone. If you count wives it's six. It's been a tough year. I have 3 friends who are suffering the long term affects of covid and are being told it may be for life. If anyone wants to pretend that it's just a bad cold, well I guess you can't take a pill to fix stupid.

Very sorry to hear about the loss of your friends.

I am also a senior; manage a team in our senior's league. Lost one of my good friends last month; two more might be dead by next spring. Our 90 year old dropped on the mound from a heart attack while pitching in September; we managed to save his life (a few cracked ribs from compression). Hopefully he will be back next summer. We had teams play ball in Utah's seniors games in October ...more

Yup, I had about a 6 week battle with it myself this summer. In and out of the hospital 4 times, admitted for a few days. Sure didn't feel like just a cold or flu to me. .

Government is of course the primary cause of the debt crises and resulting inflation we have today. To fight a once in a century pandemic, sure they could have just let nature run it's course, with no shutdowns or intervention. But, I believe it would have globally been worse to do nothing and we'd be dealing with a deep, hollowing out depression now rather than facing a mild recession.
