OF note, now EX DIVVY DATE means little

So i see in MAY , the ex divvy date and RECORD date are now the same day.  Basically means you have to own the stock the day before  THE "Record date",  (which is also exidvvy  date then).

Hi Mouserman How is it possible to have the same date for ex-div. and record date?
Comment by NoShoesNoShirt on May 21, 2024 11:43am
Now if you buy on exdiv you get the div? Should be confusing.

It means they are able to do the record date in 24 hrs , instead of the 48 hrs previously. SO if you own the stock the day before the RECORD date you get the dividend... which makes the RECORD date ALSO the  ex dividend date.

Hi Mouserman, When you say NOW ex-divvy and record date are the same, is it just for this month or it will be like that forever?  Because, I don't understand why it's like that this month!

Check your broker's news feed/mssgs. The settlement date is now T+1. This is what TD said for eg: Canadian markets will shorten the trade settlement cycle to one business day starting Monday, May 27, 2024. For U.S. market participants, the shortened trade settlement cycle will start on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. This change will impact trades for stocks, Exchange-Traded Funds, fixed income ...more
