You make some very good arguments in favourofSharebuybacksbut l must respectfully disagree with you.You also post on BTE board and after years and tens of millions , would you care to show where buybacks added to Shareholder value , a better dividend would more than likely received a better reception as it is real money , not some make believe fiction that may or may not materialize and mgmt is quite aware of the attention span of retail investors so ignore the millions already wasted but tout the good times ahead with another round of garbage financial engineering. On another note Max, do you intend visiting your ancestral home inNova Scotia this summer.I heard they are predicting an extremely active Hurricane season with particular focus of Nature looking at the Maritimes. Instead of the Caribbean like they used too.PunishedintheWinter and now it seems the summer. Time both us and GXE caught the break we both deserve.

If a giant buyback is good enough for apple, it's good enough for me. I'm not talking about the standard NCIB where every company announces their intentions to buy back stock, but then never buy squat. I'm talking about companies like ATH which I would cite as the best example. Without the buybacks who knows how much lower it would be, but even with a 5% yield, oil stocks are not saved ...more

"If a giant buyback is good enough for apple, it's good enough for me." ????? One BIG difference: Apple has money in the bank and they use their cash to reduce the number of shares ourstanding: WIN-WIN all around. GXE does not have extra cash in the bank (at this time) They would have to borrow to buy back shares.  That makes no sense at this time..

Max , l figure as an Ex Maritimer you know as well as l do that firewood will not last 20 years , even if under cover.Thst on your part must have been a misspeak exaggeration. Your comparison of a GXE buyback toan Apple is absolutely ludicrous. Comparing a 3 Trillion company to our little guy.Apple should instead double or triple their dividend as their new product development is nonexistent , In ...more

Yeah okay wise guy. I was being literal about the firewood. And I'm never sarcastic. For the millionth time, nobody but a birdbrain would buy a small cap oil producer for yield. Name ONE small cap energy producer that has EVER successfully paid a sustainable high dividend yield. Name one small cap from ANY cyclical industry that has consistently paid a high yield. There are none. As for Apple  ...more

Maxmoe wrote "... nobody but a birdbrain would buy a small cap oil producer for yield. ..." My wife and I are not "birdbrain" and yes we have purchased GXE for the yield (8.96% in early April) and are quite satisfied with the current share uptrend while WTI is slipping and most Canadian larger oil producer shares are going nowhere for the last month. We did not expect a ...more

Well good luck, but I'll bet if I ask enough questions we'll discover you're not being honest with yourself.   Example : If yield is the prime determinant, then why wouldn't you just buy bce or enb ? Same yield. More or less. Much, much, lower risk. Much, much less likely to cut the divy. The answer is you want upside from undervalued energy stock. They are all undervalued. So ...more

I bought a gold stock with similar characteristics. Unheard of 6%+ yield when I bought it because the divy gave no support as the stock dropped from $6 to $5 to $4 to 3.50 where I bought it. It dropped despite gold setting all time high prices because of its operations in africa being at risk while the new mine in Nunavut is still a year plus away from production. Perfect time if you follow the ...more

"then why wouldn't you just buy bce" We have a well diversified portfolio, including 1,000 shares of BCE, etc.. "That's why I own gxe." Different strokes for different folks.
