High Arctic Energy Services Inc > Santos today announced the Papua LNG joint venture

Santos today announced the Papua LNG joint venture

has launched fully-integrated front-end engineering and design (FEED) for the Papua LNG project in Papua New Guinea.

Papua LNG is expected to have liquefaction capacity of up to six million tonnes of LNG per annum with first production expected by the end of 2027 or early 2028.

Following pre-FEED studies, the Papua LNG partners have selected a concept using four electric LNG trains (e-trains) with a combined capacity of four million tonnes per annum to be developed within the existing PNG LNG project site. Papua LNG has also secured access to up to two million tonnes of existing liquefaction capacity from PNG LNG.

Integrating the Papua LNG midstream development within PNG LNG maximises the value of both projects and delivers increased capital efficiency by reducing upfront capital expenditure and maximising integration synergies. PNG LNG will receive an access fee, pro-rata opex sharing and ongoing processing toll revenue that compensates PNG LNG for making the capacity available.Selecting e-trains and re-injection of reservoir CO2 will reduce the carbon intensity of the project.

Santos Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Kevin Gallagher said Papua LNG FEED entry was consistent with Santos’ strategy to backfill and sustain its core natural gas assets.

“The concept selected for Papua LNG maximises value through midstream integration with PNG LNG to deliver increased capital efficiency and lower operating costs, consistent with our disciplined operating model,” Mr Gallagher said.

This is a great update and positive confirmation for the prospects that may one day convert to cash flow for shareholders! The carbon sequestration aspect of the project is interesting. I hope one day in the future when someone starts talking about Efficient Market Hypothesis I can point to High Arctic as one of many successful counter arguments that have accrued to me! LR

I have been a long term holder of this stock and recent management actions have been quite underwheling.  1. Decision to sell Canadian business - No apparent value add to the shareholders. Letting go of a cash flow positive unit with no plans to re-deploy funds, some starnded assets in Canada & US. 2. Huge war chest of cash - It has been about 7-8 months that the canadian asset ...more

Avalon, Great post!  I 100% agree with you. Management has been underwhelming - and that's an understatement. To add my $0.02, I opine that they didn't sell the Canadian assets entirely to justify keeping a corporate office in Canada; otherwise, they'd likely have to move corporate to Australia or elsewhere since they'd no longer have business in Canada (other than an ...more

Your comments are entirely fair and valid.  My view is that the share price reflects the apathy of investors. I do not expect HWO to survive in its current format either; however, my investment hypothesis is that the collection of assets is worth substantially more than the current share price due to my positive view of LNG development in PNG. We have entered the realm of cigar butts ...more

AVALONSHARK , one time I said there was no sense in arguing with you because of your handle .  I will agree it's frustrating to have that much cash undployed or returned but there are different ways to look at data. 1) Did they get fair value,  or better,   for the Canadian operations? If the answer is yes , then the stranded operations don't really count.  If the ...more

Hey look, we are all shareholders and at the end of the day want to make money out of our investments. I shared my thoughts because I genuinely feel management needs to build a better picture on the future prospects and the story of High Arctic. If I am being too impatient and wrong, and the company does really well in the near future , no one will be happier. PS: The countdown has been going on ...more

At least the countdown is close to an end.

Why did they sell off Cdn operations? They were one of many competitors in Canada and not making much money if any. They stated they would save $4 million annually in A & G by divesting Cdn. ops. In PNG they have a dominant position and while the wait has been painful, if activity fully ramps up it will be far more lucrative than anything they could achieve in Canada. HWO unfortunately does ...more
