Ya.  It's hardball.   I think what Japan needs to do at this point is unveil their strategic and tactical  missile nukes (that supposedly don't exist), so that China understands that their "Exceptional Theory" is in fact another factual act of stupidity. It never ends.   Having lived through the Cold War, I am a strong advocate of the MAD doctrine.

As sort of an "old China hand," I'd like to point out that that country has advanced from being quite backward, even through the Mao times, to being among the most important economies in the world today.  Such success comes with a most dangerous kind of cultural imperiousness and arrogance.  They are more of a danger than most can appreciate.
